About the Journal

Interdisciplinary Journal of Education (IJE)

The Interdisciplinary Journal of Education (IJE) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to advancing rigorous, innovative, and interdisciplinary research in education.

IJE provides a scholarly platform for researchers, educators, practitioners, educational leaders, and policymakers to disseminate original research that contributes meaningfully to educational theory, research, policy, practice, and innovation.

The journal seeks to facilitate scholarly exchange across diverse national, cultural, disciplinary, and institutional contexts while maintaining education as the central focus of its published research.

Journal Mission
IJE aims to publish methodologically rigorous, ethically conducted, theoretically informed, and internationally relevant scholarship that advances understanding of teaching, learning, learners, educators, educational institutions, educational systems, and their interaction with other disciplines.

Scholarly Contributions

IJE considers original and rigorous scholarly contributions, including:

  • quantitative research;
  • qualitative research;
  • mixed-methods research;
  • experimental and quasi-experimental studies;
  • systematic reviews;
  • meta-analyses;
  • bibliometric and systematic-bibliometric studies;
  • theoretical and conceptual studies;
  • methodological studies; and
  • other scholarly work that makes a substantive contribution to education.

Educational and Interdisciplinary Scope

The journal welcomes research in areas including, but not limited to:

  • teaching, learning, and pedagogy;
  • curriculum, assessment, and educational evaluation;
  • educational leadership, management, policy, and governance;
  • teacher education and professional development;
  • educational technology, digital learning, and artificial intelligence;
  • inclusive and special education;
  • educational psychology, learner development, and well-being;
  • guidance and counseling in educational settings;
  • vocational and technical education;
  • entrepreneurship and economic education;
  • language and literacy education;
  • STEM and interdisciplinary subject education;
  • sustainability and environmental education;
  • character and values education;
  • community, cultural, and lifelong learning; and
  • other interdisciplinary fields in which education constitutes the central theoretical, empirical, methodological, or practical contribution.
Scope Principle
Interdisciplinary research is welcomed when education is not merely the setting or background of the study but constitutes a substantive component of the research question, analysis, outcomes, or scholarly contribution.

Manuscripts whose principal scholarly contribution lies outside education and that do not demonstrate a clear and substantive educational dimension are considered outside the scope of IJE.

Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment before external peer review.

The initial assessment considers:

  • alignment with the journal's aims and scope;
  • originality and potential scholarly contribution;
  • methodological rigor and appropriateness;
  • research and publication integrity;
  • ethical compliance;
  • quality and clarity of academic presentation;
  • adequacy of scholarly context and references; and
  • compliance with the journal's Author Guidelines.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's fundamental editorial, ethical, methodological, or scope requirements may be declined without external peer review.

Peer Review

Manuscripts that successfully pass initial editorial screening proceed to a double-anonymous peer-review process.

Research manuscripts are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant disciplinary or methodological expertise.

Reviewers are selected on the basis of relevant expertise, scholarly experience, independence, and the absence of material conflicts of interest.

Peer Review Model: Double-anonymous peer review
External Review: Normally at least two independent reviewers
Editorial Responsibility: Final decisions remain with the responsible editor

Editorial Decision-Making

Editorial decisions are based on the scholarly merit and integrity of the manuscript.

Relevant considerations include:

  • originality;
  • academic contribution;
  • methodological rigor;
  • ethical integrity;
  • alignment with the journal's aims and scope;
  • clarity and quality of scholarly communication;
  • reviewer evaluations;
  • author responses and revisions; and
  • potential relevance to the wider educational research community.

Editorial decisions must not be determined by an author's institutional affiliation, nationality, academic position, commercial relationship, or payment of publication-related fees.

International and Contextual Relevance

IJE welcomes research conducted in local, national, regional, and international settings.

Studies focused on a particular institution, community, region, or country should clearly explain the broader scholarly significance of their findings and engage appropriately with relevant international literature.

Context-specific research is encouraged when it contributes meaningfully to broader educational knowledge, theory, methodology, policy, or practice.

Language of Publication

IJE publishes scholarly articles in English. Article titles, abstracts, keywords, main texts, and bibliographic information are presented in English to support international readability and discoverability.

Abstracting, Indexing & Discovery

Information concerning abstracting, indexing, metadata registration, and scholarly discovery services is maintained transparently on the journal website.

IJE lists only databases, indexes, directories, discovery services, and metadata infrastructures for which the journal's presence or participation can be appropriately verified.

Indexing Transparency
The appearance of an individual IJE article, citation, DOI, or metadata record in a database does not by itself establish that the journal is formally indexed by that database. Claims of journal-level indexing should therefore be made only when independently verifiable.

Publication Schedule

IJE publishes three regular issues each year:

March • July • November

The journal is committed to maintaining its stated publication schedule and to avoiding unnecessary interruptions in publication.

Editorial Policy & Transparency

IJE maintains publicly accessible editorial and publishing policies covering key areas of scholarly publishing, including:
